Themed party planning – the do’s and don’ts

Tuesday, February 24th, 2015

A themed party is a great way to get together with pals to celebrate a special occasion. Plus it’s not a bad idea for a corporate event either. Themes are fun, use them for entertainment purposes and all of your guests should have a brilliant time. We provide some of our top tips for themed party planning. Do this to make the event a runaway success.

Take care choosing the theme

Think about themes for the party. Start to mull over ideas and plenty of topics spring to mind. The time of year might have some influence on your final decision.  Halloween and Christmas are popular occasions to throw themed parties. In theory though, you could be creative with theme ideas at any given time to add a little fun to a social get together.

Some suggestions for party themes include:

  • Las Vegas – Turn your venue into a casino. Hire roulette, poker and blackjack tables.
  • James Bond – Asks guests to come as their favourite Bond character.
  • Disco – Recreate the 70’s feel, dress in flairs, wide collar shirts and play disco music all night.
  • Grease –  Tell female guests to come as ‘Pink Ladies’ and guys to recreate the look of the ‘T-Birds’.
  • Superhero – Dress as Spiderman, Wonder Woman or The Incredible Hulk. Guests win prizes for the best costume.
  • Your choice of theme – Use your imagination and think of a quirky theme.

Send out invites nice and early

Once you decide on a theme make sure you send those invites out nice an early to give guests plenty of time to pick and choose their costumes. Most people will probably hire or buy their costumes but there will always be a few creative individuals that like to make their own outfits. The more time they have to do this, the better the outfit is going to look.

Dress the venue accordingly

Once you know the theme think about how you can dress the venue. Use features, props and theme-inspired items to bring the setting to life. Spend time making the venue inviting and appealing. Once guests arrive they’ll soon get into the party spirit.

Play suitable music

You’ve got a great theme, the venue looks stunning and everyone has dressed appropriately for the occasion. What else is there left to do? Book a DJ! Music makes all the difference at themed parties. Get the music right and people will be dancing and having a great time all night long.

What you need to do one week before the wedding

Tuesday, February 10th, 2015

Your wedding day is fast approaching and the pre-wedding jitters are setting in. So what can you do to take your mind of those jitters?

Well, have you remembered these last minute essential jobs?

Here’s our rundown of everything that needs doing one week before the wedding, at the latest.

  • Try your dress on to make sure that no last minute adjustments need to be made. Might be a good idea to persuade your husband to be to try his suit on too.
  • Communicate the schedule to all the people who need to know what’s happening and when. Bridesmaids, parents, wedding planner – they’ll all need to know.
  • Get in touch with wedding guests that haven’t replied to your wedding invitations. You need to know exactly who’s turning up so that you can arrange details with the venue and caterers.
  • Contact the venue and caterers to confirm every detail. And let them know that if there’s a problem, you need alerting to it immediately.
  • Are there any last minute cosmetic jobs that need doing? Do you need your nails painting? Have you chosen a makeup artist? Have you confirmed the time your makeup artist is arriving?
  • Pack your honeymoon bag. Chances are, you’re going to be jetting off pretty much straight after the wedding. And that won’t be a time you want to spend packing.
  • Contact the wedding transport to make sure they know everything they need to. What time they’re picking you up, the route, where they’re dropping you off etc.
  • An emergency kit. Pack a small hang bag with stuff you’ll want with you on the day. A small camera, makeup, deodorant, chewing gum, plasters, etc…

Do everything we’ve listed above a week before the wedding and you should be plain sailing. And then you can relax and look forward to the big day!
